Not sure where the fear comes with autism, but one fear has been getting a haircut. He never had a bad experience or anything.
I decided to start buzzing his hair when he became so filled with anxiety about it. I thought well, I could do as well as taking him somewhere and help him with the anxiety a little easier.
It would take a process between my anxiety of bringing it up to him to prepare him and his anxiety of doing it.
Now years later… and as you can see, I PUT IT OFF AS LONG AS I CAN.
The process has become a lot easier! I use a few tools from my toolbox to make it easier for him.
Be sure to see the follow-through when we actually get the haircut done just a few minutes after I prepped him.
The ahha… no NOISE, just the scissors. So, having NO experience with cutting hair, I am now trying to be a hairstylist. Not killing it by any means and it is still super hard for him, but we’re making progress.
